Our Story — Sahu Gajak Bhandar Est. 1875
Brand Story of Sahu Gajak Bhandar — A Legacy of Warmth, Taste & Tradition Since 1875
The story of Sahu Gajak Bhandar began in 1875 with Shri Dhanna Lal Sahu Ji, who first started preparing traditional winter gajak at home in Menpura, Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan.
In those days, life was simple and winter nights were harsh. There were no modern heating facilities, and weddings or family celebrations often continued for 7 to 10 days. Guests and baratis stayed in open areas, under trees, and in temporary arrangements. During such cold winter gatherings, families wanted to serve something special — a sweet that was not only delicious, but also gave warmth, energy, and comfort.
With this thought, Shri Dhanna Lal Sahu Ji prepared gajak using simple and pure ingredients — til (sesame), gud (jaggery), and traditional sweet-making methods. It was served during festivals, marriage ceremonies, and family gatherings. Its fresh taste, natural crunch, and comforting warmth were loved by everyone. Guests appreciated it so much that they encouraged him to continue preparing it for more occasions.
What began as a homemade winter sweet slowly became a family tradition and a symbol of hospitality.
1920 — Taking Gajak to the World: Shri Peerulal Sahu Ji
As the years passed, this tradition grew stronger. In 1920, Shri Peerulal Sahu Ji carried the legacy forward by travelling from village to village, visiting haats, fairs, festivals, and winter markets. Along with the family's work in jaggery and sesame oil, he introduced more people to the authentic taste of handmade gajak. His dedication helped the family name reach more homes, more communities, and new generations of customers.
1985 — The First Shop: Shri Ramakarn Sahu Ji
In 1985, Shri Ramakarn Sahu Ji took the family legacy forward by establishing a physical sweets shop alongside the family's oil manufacturing business. This milestone gave customers a trusted destination for fresh, traditional gajak and winter sweets. With time, the brand became known for its honest taste, quality ingredients, and sweets prepared with care — continuing the values passed down through generations.
2017 — Going Digital: Shri Ghanshyam Sahu Ji & Shri Ramavtar Sahu Ji
In 2017, the next generation — Shri Ghanshyam Sahu Ji and Shri Ramavtar Sahu Ji — brought this heritage into the digital age by starting online sales. With this step, the authentic taste of Rajasthan began reaching customers beyond local markets and across India. What once began as a homemade winter sweet for family functions started reaching homes nationwide.
Today — The 5th Generation & a Global Vision
Today, the 5th generation of Sahu Gajak Bhandar is carrying this legacy forward with a larger vision — to take the authentic taste of Rajasthan to customers across the world. With improved packaging, online platforms, modern distribution, and the same traditional values, the family is working to make Sahu Gajak Bhandar a trusted name not only in India, but also among Indian sweet lovers worldwide.
Even as the brand expands globally, its heart remains rooted in the same tradition that began in 1875. Every piece of gajak continues to reflect the values of purity, tradition, trust, warmth, and authentic Rajasthani taste.
From village gatherings to wedding celebrations, from winter fairs to online orders, and now from India to the world — Sahu Gajak Bhandar continues its journey with pride and dedication.
The brand is not just about sweets; it is about preserving a family tradition, a winter memory, and the timeless taste of Rajasthan for generations to come.
